• Economy centre (vision of joint development of business zones, technology parks, incubators and other support measures);

• Cooperation of SMEs through cooperation between R&D and Chambers of Craft and of Economy.

Main challenges

• Low availability of new landfills due to scarcity of land, over-industrialized valleys;
• Many small business zones, Natura 2000, protected areas and farm land;
• Brown fields changing nature (search for innovative solutions);
• Need for strategic rethinking of business zones, roles and support mechanisms;
• Need for inter-municipal approach and strategic rethinking, inter-municipal cooperation and analytic business plans in use, management of land resources for commercial development;
• Synergies between the service  and production business areas involved in the pilot project ;
• Raised attractiveness of the region’s commerce, knowledge and technology.

Main problems

• Migration of workers (few “really innovative jobs” in the region);
• Acquisition of suitable land;
• A great deal of protected land with small ownership;
• Getting very innovative experts from other regions (long-term target) not available in short time (strong mechanism needed to attract them – e. g. well-equipped labs, good conditions to master challenges)
• Need for “good region position measures” to attract and maintain innovative SMEs and bigger companies in the region; need to include measures to attract an innovative work force.

Expectations from COMUNIS

• Inter-municipal cooperation and analytic business plans in use, management  of land resources for commercial development;
